Science has a gender. Food labels don't mention it.
Some evidence matters specifically to pregnancy, fetal development, reproduction or a defined difference between sexes. BOTIA shows that evidence. It does not treat every woman as equally vulnerable.
Why Woman exists in BOTIA
For decades, nutritional and toxicological research focused on the general population — which in practice meant adult men. Women's specific biological vulnerabilities received less attention. BOTIA's Woman module is built on the evidence that does exist: peer-reviewed studies, EFSA opinions, WHO reports, and IARC classifications that document differential risk for women.
Woman is not a life stage
This module is not only about pregnancy or motherhood. It separates pregnancy and fetal-development evidence from findings about a specific substance, effect or subgroup. Not every flag applies to every woman, at every age.
Two types of signals
BOTIA's Woman module works in two ways. When a specific ingredient with documented risk for women is detected on the label, BOTIA flags it directly. When no specific ingredient is found, BOTIA still surfaces contextual risk information — about packaging, about cumulative endocrine exposure, about fat-soluble compounds — because these risks exist regardless of what the label declares.

Always-present risk context
These three signals appear regardless of the ingredient list — because the risks they describe are structural, not ingredient-specific:
Endocrine disruptors
Interacting with hormones isn't the same as disrupting them. A substance counts as a disruptor only when that interaction causes harm — and that has to be shown, not assumed. Risk also depends on exposure, not on being a woman.
Packaging migrants
Chemical compounds that transfer from packaging into food — BPA, phthalates, PFAS. They do not appear on the ingredient list but enter the body through food.
Fat-soluble accumulation
Some persistent, fat-soluble contaminants — including dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs — can build up in body fat in both sexes. Pregnancy and breastfeeding matter because some of these compounds can reach the fetus or infant.
BOTIA CAN
