Alcohol

alcohol, ethanol, ethyl alcohol, ethanol of agricultural origin, alcohol etílico, alcohol de origen agrícola

What it is

A chemical compound produced by fermentation, also known as ethanol, used as an ingredient or solvent carrier.

Why BOTIA flags it

It flags it because it is strictly prohibited (haram) in Islamic dietary laws and is classified by the WHO as a Group 1 carcinogen that increases breast cancer risk in women even in small quantities.

BOTIA CAN

  • Detect any alcohol or ethanol terms in the ingredients or product descriptions.
  • Provide cancer risk alerts for women and halal safety warnings.

BOTIA CANNOT

  • Measure the exact volumetric or weight percentage of alcohol if it is present as a carrier residue below labeling thresholds.
  • Ascertain whether the alcohol was produced naturally via spontaneous fermentation or deliberately added.
