What it is
Chemical compounds that transfer from food packaging into the food itself. They do not appear on the ingredient list but enter the body through food consumption.
Why BOTIA flags it
Chemicals can move from food-contact materials into food without appearing on the ingredient list. But the package alone does not prove migration or its amount: that depends on the substance, material and use. There is no official basis here for saying women are more exposed.
BOTIA CAN
- Inform about the risk of chemical migration from packaging materials.
- Flag when a product's packaging type may increase migration risk.
BOTIA CANNOT
- Detect packaging migrants from the ingredient list — they are not declared on the label.
- Confirm whether a specific package contains BPA, phthalates, or PFAS.
