What BOTIA detected

BOTIA signals when the halal or haram status cannot be confirmed from the label alone.

Why this matters

Under Islamic Law, an ingredient derived from an unlawful source is also unlawful (Codex CAC/GL 24-1997). However, food labels worldwide are not required to declare where many ingredients actually come from. Flavourings, emulsifiers, enzymes, gelatines and glycerol can all be animal, plant or alcohol-based, and the label looks exactly the same either way.

BOTIA CAN

  • Detect ingredients whose origin is left undeclared on the label.
  • Explain why that specific ingredient can be animal, plant or alcohol-based.
  • Make the silence visible, so the decision is yours and not the manufacturer's by omission.

BOTIA CANNOT

  • Confirm or deny halal status — it is not a certification body.
  • Know the real origin of an ingredient the label never declared.
  • Replace a certified halal authority or your own religious judgement.

The origin was not declared. That is not a verdict — it is the information you were missing.
