What it is
A synthetic certified food colour known as Indigotine and declared under different names or numbering systems depending on the market.
Why BOTIA flags it
Indigotine is barely absorbed in the intestine: most of it passes through. It appears on the European Union list of authorised food colours as E132, and in the United States it is known as FD&C Blue No. 2. JECFA established an acceptable daily intake and found no health concern at estimated dietary exposure; in the United States, several companies have committed to removing petroleum-based food dyes.
