Indigotine
E132 / INS 132
E132, INS 132, indigotine, indigo carmine, FD&C Blue No. 2, FD&C Blue 2, Blue 2
What it is
A synthetic certified food colour known as Indigotine and declared under different names or numbering systems depending on the market.
Why BOTIA flags it
BOTIA flags an explicit declaration because the FDA currently lists this colour for specified U.S. uses while also placing the remaining petroleum-derived certified colours in a current risk-management/voluntary phase-out initiative. Review or phase-out activity is not itself proof that a declared amount in an individual product causes harm.
BOTIA CAN
- Detect the principal U.S. names and the international/E-number identifiers listed for Indigotine.
- Show current U.S. regulatory-review context while keeping it distinct from EU or Codex authorisation.
BOTIA CANNOT
- Determine the concentration or exposure from the ingredient list.
- Describe the colour as already prohibited in the United States when it remains authorised for specified uses.
