Fat-soluble accumulation
Fat-soluble accumulation, lipophilic compound accumulation, bioaccumulation in fatty tissue, fat storage of toxins
What it is
Bioaccumulation happens when a substance enters the body faster than it leaves. Persistent, fat-soluble contaminants such as dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs can build up in body fat for years. That is not true of every fat-soluble compound.
Why BOTIA flags it
BOTIA raises this only when an official assessment shows that a specific compound persists and builds up. More body fat alone does not prove greater risk. Nor can BOTIA assume concentrated release during menopause, pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss.
BOTIA CAN
- Provide contextual information on how fat-soluble compounds behave in the female body.
- Connect this knowledge to specific ingredients flagged on the label when applicable.
BOTIA CANNOT
- Measure the actual burden of fat-soluble compounds in a specific person from the label.
- Predict when or at what concentration accumulated compounds may release.
