What it is
A synthetic certified food colour known as Fast Green FCF and declared under different names or numbering systems depending on the market.
Why BOTIA flags it
Fast Green is barely absorbed in the intestine: most of it passes through. It does not appear on the European Union list of authorised food colours, so a label declaring it does not correspond to an EU-authorised formulation. JECFA established an acceptable daily intake and found no health concern at estimated dietary exposure. In the United States, several companies have committed to removing it together with other petroleum-based food dyes. The commitment is voluntary, not a ban. The label does not tell you how much it contains.
